Home Renovations

From old wooden night stand to classy blue beauty

Productivity!
Before & After

When we got our home 5 years ago, we could not afford to fully furnish the house, so we were given a bunch of used furniture from family members. The only thing we purchased new were our couches.

We had mix matched furniture, some dark wood, some light, & some painted.

My mom has a hobby of painting furniture changing it from drab to fab. Something about before and after pictures, I could look at and admire all day which I did for years.

I dreamed of having matching furniture and having everything in the house look like it was purchased all as a set.

Step 1: START!

(Practice makes perfect) Don’t expect your first piece to be perfect, you’ll get better with time.

But one day at bible study we were talking about using what you are given. Aren’t happy with how things currently are? Make changes & learn to make do with what you already have.

I pushed myself out of my comfort zone & told myself that I could do this!
I just had to START!

Step 2: Choose something you already have in your house that could use a little paint.

This night stand was my husbands night stand he has had for years that I decided to paint.

Step 3: Choose what color

I first sanded the top using my sander and stained just the top using Carbon Gray. I removed the handles using a screwdriver and then primed the drawers and the base with a white primer. I had to do about 3 coats of primer to completely cover the wood tint. Once completely dried for the base, I painted it Sherwin Williams Cyberspace. The next day, I painted the entire piece with a protective finish. & I spray painted the hardware using a Silver Rust-Oleum spray paint.

The lamp on the night stand was also redone. Initially it was a blueish lamp with a tan lamp shade. I spray painted the whole thing. For the base, I used the same Silver Rust-Oleum spray paint as I did for the hardware on the night stand. & for the lamp shade I taped the inside to keep it the tan color, and spray painted the outside a flat black.
